Bi-Directional Live Streaming Using XVD™ CamCast
and an Internet Broadband Connection

Waseda University Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies-sponsored "Japanese and
Chinese Business Forum 2nd International Symposium" technical tie-up

Tokyo - February 25, 2004 - The Waseda University Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies-sponsored "Japanese and Chinese Business Forum 2nd International Symposium" was streamed live over the Internet bi-directionally using the XVD™ video codec developed and distributed by B.H.A Corporation. The main venue at Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan) was connected live via the Internet to the satellite venue at Asia University (Tokyo, Japan - shown in the pictures below).

This first two-way live streaming using XVD took place on February 20, 2004 over approximately 4 hours from 1 p.m. using XVD CamCast, XVD real-time video compression streaming hardware, and an Internet connection. The XVD CamCast system compresses, transmits, receives and plays XVD files (Full D1 (720x480/30fps) video and audio) compressed in real-time. The sessions were filmed using television cameras, which were installed at both venues, then compressed in real-time at 700kpbs, sent over the Internet, received by the receiver at the other venue and played immediately on the large screen monitors. The high-quality video and audio contributed to the smooth progress of the symposium. The benefits of using the two-way live streaming system were fully realized in the question and answer session, receiving high praises from the organizers.
