DigitalStream-USA™ has developed the next generation suite of software tools for the creation and distribution of high-quality video. Software Solutions. The heart of XVD is a state of the art codec that compresses digital video faster and more efficiently than any existing technology available today. This performance advantage translates into higher resolution with better viewing performance than was ever possible before over IP networks.

In addition to creating better streaming applications, XVD compression produces more efficient file sizes for storing video content. For instance, it is now possible for any user to create over 2.5 hours of their own full-screen, DVD-quality video and compress onto an inexpensive CD, which can then be played back automatically on any PC. With XVD, it is also now possible to create and store over 2 hours of HDTV resolution video on a standard DVD while maintaining exceptional quality.

But XVD technology goes far beyond setting the standard for codec performance. DigitalStream offers an integrated suite of video compression tools that provide advanced controls for defining output parameters, optimization of video quality, managing file size and other functions such as DRM (digital rights management).

The modular architecture of XVD allows for tailoring products for specific application requirements; from offering a powerful, but easy to use, authoring package for the “video newbie” to unleashing an exhaustive range of professional features and controls for optimizing video quality output to meet production studio standards. This modular approach allows OEMs to also easily add additional features and create a product family roadmap.

Hardware Solutions.While XVD software encoding performance speed is truly unequaled, DigitalStream has taken this to an even higher level by developing hardware platforms that fully exploit advanced DSP (digital signal processing) ICs.

For example, with I/O Data recently announced GV-XVD/PCI solution (shown here) it is now possible to encode DVD-quality (D1) video in real-time.

This kind of performance on a PC platform was just not possible before. XVD allows high-value features and professional class performance to be brought down market, saving video editors significant time and expense.
