Market
Landscape
Since the
early days of the Internet, delivering high quality digital multimedia
has been a highly sought after goal. However, the constraints of
network bandwidth, processor performance and consumer technology
adoption rates have relegated the use of video on the Internet today
to novelty applications.
Content
providers and users have been forced to deal with “postage
stamp” size player screens rendering distorted, low-resolution
video that presents a disappointing digital experience.
While this
digital media compromise can be explained away in terms of infrastructure,
file size and cost constraints, the vast untapped market for video
applications will not be fully realized until the image quality
and delivery is no longer a distraction from the user experience.
The technology needs to become invisible, just like today’s
TVs and DVD players.
DigitalStream-USA™
next-generation XVD™ technology will enable the proliferation
of high-resolution video applications over IP networks years sooner
than earlier thought possible. The company’s core technology
dovetails nicely with the proliferation of other enabling infrastructure,
such as broadband terrestrial and wireless Internet access, home
wireless networks, Internet enabled PDA’s and cell phones.
The continued growth in these markets, as shown below, pave the
way for a wide range of IP network based video distribution for
both narrow-band width and broadband applications.
